Dry Needling Chandler Physical Therapy

Have you ever had dry needling for your hamstring injury? It’s sports season again and you know what that means? Hamstring injuries! While there is no single cause of a hamstring strain or tear, here at Chandler Physical Therapy, we see some common themes that seem to set the stage for potential hamstring injury. We will discuss how to avoid these injuries at the end of this article.

First, however, let’s talk about dry needling, a super effective, minimally invasive treatment to help promote healing and get you back to the activities you love faster after hamstring injury.

Dry needling is a treatment performed by skilled, trained physical therapists, certified in the procedure. A thin monofilament (not hollow, no medications, and super thin) needle penetrates the skin and treats underlying muscular trigger points for the management of neuromusculoskeletal (nerve and muscle) pain and movement impairments.

When dry needling is applied to a dysfunctional muscle or trigger point, it can decrease banding or tightness, increase blood flow, and reduce local and referred pain.

Reduced pain means better movement, better sleep and an overall better outlook on life! Less tightness means better ROM, and increased blood flow helps bring healing nutrients to the injury site, and escort waste products out speeding the healing response.

We use this needle to work the trigger point, causing it to twitch and release.
